Why we built it
A commitment never arrives as a task. It arrives as a text at a red light. A sentence in a meeting. A “can you send that over?” while you’re making dinner. You say yes, and from that second some part of you is assigned to not forgetting it.
Every tool we tried made the same demand: stop, open the app, type the task, pick a date, choose a list. That’s a chore, and nobody does a chore at a red light. So the list went stale, the promises stayed in our heads, and the ones that mattered most slipped anyway.
Matters starts at the other end: the moment the thing is said. Say it out loud. Copy it. Share it. Photograph the whiteboard. AI agents read it once, file it as tasks — each with its date, its person, its corner of your life — and bring each one back at the moment you can act. What they read is then discarded.

- The moment telling Matters is harder than remembering it yourself, we’ve lost. One sentence, one copy, one share. No forms, no date pickers, no filing.
- Silence is a feature.
- A reminder at the wrong hour is noise, and noise teaches you to swipe. One short brief in the morning, a plan for the week on Sunday, and otherwise Matters speaks only when you can act.
- Trust is the product.
- You can only forget something when you’re certain it will come back. So audio is never stored, captures are read once and discarded, and delete means deleted.
- It works for you, not on you.
- Matters drafts; you send. It suggests when; your calendar stays yours. No surveillance, no behavioral profile, no watching your tabs.
