Terms of Service
These terms cover your use of Matters: the iPhone app, the Mac app, the Android app, and the website at mattersapp.site. Using any of them means you accept them.
What Matters does
Matters is a set of AI agents that remember for you. They sit at the places your life arrives: your messages, your mail, your calendar, your meetings, anything you say out loud. They read what comes in, work out which line is a promise you made, and write it down with the day and the person attached. It is a tool for remembering; it is not a substitute for your own judgement about what needs doing.
Your account
You need an email address to use Matters, and you must be 13 or older. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping access to your email secure, since signing in uses a code sent there. Tell us at once if you think someone else has got in.
Your content
Your tasks are yours. You keep every right in them. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your tasks, sync them between your devices, and to pass text you capture to a language model for the seconds it takes to read a task out of it. Nothing you write is used to train generalised models, and nothing is sold.
Connected accounts
If you connect Google, Outlook, or another service, you are telling us we may read from it on your behalf, for the sole purpose of finding your commitments. We ask only for read-only access. You can disconnect at any time from Settings, and doing so stops all further access immediately. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is read and what is kept.
Fair use
Do not use Matters to break the law, to store or move someone else’s data without their permission, to attack or overload the service, or to resell it as your own. We may suspend an account that does.
Paying
Matters is free to use. Pro costs $5 a month, billed until you cancel, and starts with a 14-day free trial that needs no card. Cancel any time from Settings; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not give partial refunds for an unused part of a month, but if something has gone wrong, tell us and we will sort it out.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your tasks from our servers as well as your devices. We may close an account that breaks these terms, and will say why unless we are prevented from doing so.
What we do not promise
Matters is provided as it is. We work hard to make extraction accurate, but it is done by a language model and it will sometimes be wrong. It can miss a task, misread a date, or catch something you did not mean. Check anything that matters. We are not liable for what follows from a task the app got wrong, missed, or delivered late, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Changes
If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes and we tell account holders by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Matters after that means you accept the new terms.
